The police have sought public assistance to arrest a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting incident reported in the Mitiyagoda Police Division.
Police are investigating the murder of a woman who worked as a cashier at a restaurant in the Aluthwala Road area of Mitiyagoda on November 17, 2025.
The suspect who allegedly carried out the shooting has been identified, but police stated that he is currently evading arrest and hiding away from his usual residential area.
The suspect has been identified as Galkena Kankanamge Upul Kumara alias “Jambu”, aged 39, a resident of Udumulla, Kalupe, Hikkaduwa.
Police stated that the suspect is also wanted in connection with shooting incidents reported in the Gandara and Ambalangoda Police Divisions. Warrants have also been issued against him in connection with several cases before the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court.
