An 11-year-old boy who was swept into the sea after being caught in a strong current at Polhena Beach in Matara has been rescued by officers attached to the Matara Police Lifesaving Unit.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 24, 2026. Police lifesaving officers on duty at the beach rescued the boy and provided him with first aid.
He was subsequently admitted to Matara Hospital for further treatment.
The boy involved in the incident is a resident of the Kandy area.
