Parliament is scheduled to meet from October 06 to 09, Secretary-General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera said. The business for the relevant parliamentary week was decided at a meeting of the Committee on Parliamentary Business chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne.
Tuesday, October 06: From 9.30 a.m. to 10.00 a.m., time has been allocated for Parliamentary Business under Standing Orders 22(1) to 22(6). From 10.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m., time has been allocated for Questions for Oral Answers, while questions under Standing Order 27(2) will be taken up from 11.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m.
From 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., Parliament is scheduled to consider two regulations and an order issued under the Foreign Exchange Act, as well as a resolution under the Public Debt Management Act. From 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., time has been allocated for questions at the Adjournment Time.
Wednesday, October 07: From 10.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., questions to be asked from the Prime Minister will be taken up, followed by Questions for Oral Answers from 10.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. From 11.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., Parliament is scheduled to debate an Adjournment Motion to be moved by the Opposition.
Thursday, October 08: From 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., the Second Reading debate on the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill is scheduled to be held. From 5.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., time has been allocated for questions at the Adjournment Time.
Friday, October 09: From 11.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., several Private Members’ Motions are scheduled to be debated. These include proposals concerning the protection of the Diyagama Forest, increasing train services on the Puttalam Railway Line, appointing a Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the ethnic violence of July 1983, developing a systematic programme for planting and maintaining trees within road reserves, converting Colleges of Education into university faculties, providing justice to victims of microfinance loans, and preventing the politicization of sports bodies.
