A member of an organised crime gang has been arrested with ice narcotics during a raid conducted by the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Unit.
Based on information received, officers of the unit conducted the operation on August 4, 2026, in the Wewa Road area of the Boralesgamuwa Police Division.
During the raid, the suspect was arrested with 23 grams and 500 milligrams of ice narcotics, a sword, and a dagger. The suspect was later handed over to the Boralesgamuwa Police Station.
Police stated that the suspect is a 20-year-old resident of the Boralesgamuwa area.
Investigations have revealed that the suspect is allegedly a member of an organised criminal gang operating the local drug network of an overseas-based organised crime and drug trafficking figure.
The suspect was arrested while allegedly planning a murder at a house in the Wewa Road area of Boralesgamuwa with swords and daggers.
Police have also revealed that several cases have been filed against the suspect at different police stations in connection with previous incidents including kidnappings, assaults, causing serious injuries, and drug trafficking.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Boralesgamuwa Police.
