National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa said his party has decided to participate in the rally organised by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) on September 12.
Weerawansa said the NFF Political Council had decided to accept the SLPP’s invitation and extend its support to the rally.
He described the decision as a step towards building broader opposition unity around a national agenda.
Weerawansa said the public elected the current government under exceptional circumstances, as Sri Lanka was emerging from a severe economic crisis. At the time, there were strong expectations that those responsible for corruption would be held accountable, he said.
However, Weerawansa accused the government of turning its back on those expectations. He claimed that an administration elected on a promise to catch those responsible for wrongdoing had itself become involved in corruption.
