New Details Emerge Over Kanjipani Imran Threat Recording

New information has emerged that the threatening audio recording allegedly sent by organised crime gang leader Kanjipani Imran to the Basnayake Nilame of Kataragama and Devinuwara temples, Thilina Madhusankha, was sent via WhatsApp by Danushka Kaushalya alias Rathmalana Kudu Saima, who was recently arrested in Malaysia.

Police stated that arrangements are underway to bring him back to Sri Lanka next week following his arrest by Malaysian Police and a Sri Lankan Police team.

Several details regarding crimes allegedly linked to Rathmalana Kudu Saima, a key associate of Kanjipani Imran, have also been revealed during investigations.

In a statement to police, he reportedly admitted that he sent the relevant audio recording to the Basnayake Nilame after planning it together with Kanjipani Imran and another organised crime figure known as Unakuruwe Shantha.

He has also revealed that he had sent threatening audio recordings issued by Kanjipani Imran on various occasions to relevant individuals through WhatsApp based on Imran’s instructions.

A Sri Lankan Police team had recently travelled to Malaysia based on intelligence information that Kanjipani Imran was staying there.

However, when the Malaysian and Sri Lankan police teams arrived at the location, Kanjipani Imran had already fled, while Rathmalana Kudu Saima and two others were arrested.

Police said further information regarding organised crimes and drug trafficking activities has been uncovered during interrogations.
