The Prisons Department says that permission has been granted for Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna National Organiser and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, to receive food from home.
Prisons Media Spokesman Senaka Palléthenna said the permission was granted following a request made by Namal Rajapaksa’s side.
Namal Rajapaksa, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations of accepting a bribe in connection with the purchase of Airbus aircraft, was ordered by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court last Friday to be remanded until September 18.
The Prisons Media Spokesman also said that special security arrangements have been implemented around the ward at the Colombo Remand Prison where he is being held.
Meanwhile, three people per day have been permitted to visit Namal Rajapaksa, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, Namal Rajapaksa’s mother, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, visited Welikada Prison this morning (07) to inquire about his wellbeing, according to an Ada Derana correspondent.
Parliamentarian Rohitha Abeygunawardena also visited Welikada Prison this morning to meet Namal Rajapaksa.
