The body of an anaesthetist at Badulla Teaching Hospital, who had been reported missing, was found in a forested area in the Mapakada 17th Mile area of Mahiyanganaya this morning (24), police confirmed.
Police launched an investigation after residents reported a suspicious vehicle that had been abandoned near the Viyana Canal since last night (23).
The vehicle was subsequently identified as belonging to the missing doctor.
A search operation conducted with the assistance of local residents later led to the discovery of the doctor's body in a forested area near the vehicle.
Police also found some type of medication tablets near the body.
Mahiyanganaya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
