Police have launched an investigation into the killing of a man following an assault in the Vihara Junction area of the Dambulla Police Division.

The incident occurred on the night of July 14, 2026, after Dambulla Police received information that a person had been assaulted and killed.

The deceased has been identified as a 52-year-old resident of Vihara Junction, Dambulla.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the killing was allegedly carried out by a neighbour following a dispute between the victim and the suspect. The suspect is believed to have attacked the victim with a wooden pole.

A 67-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The body has been placed at the mortuary of the Dambulla Hospital, while Dambulla Police are conducting further investigations.
