Mahinda Kahandagama Arrested with Ice

Former Colombo Municipal Council member of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Mahinda Kahandagama, has reportedly maintained close links with organised drug traffickers, according to information uncovered during investigations.

The Central Criminal Investigation Bureau arrested Kahandagama with ice narcotics this morning (06), following an investigation based on information that he was involved in the trafficking of ice.

During further investigations, officers reportedly discovered a series of video footage showing Kahandagama travelling to Dubai and attending a party with a group of drug traffickers.

The footage reportedly features Chathura Dilrukshan, the brother of the criminal known as ‘Modara Nipuna’, and drug trafficker ‘Keselwatte Dinush’. The footage allegedly shows Kahandagama maintaining close associations with them.

It has also been revealed that they referred to Kahandagama as ‘Dada’.

Investigators have also uncovered information regarding telephone conversations between Kahandagama and a drug trafficker known as ‘Ibbagewatte Suji’, with whom he is also alleged to have maintained close ties.

Further investigations have reportedly revealed that Kahandagama had received death threats after allegedly failing to pay for ice narcotics obtained from ‘Ibbagewatte Suji’.

Meanwhile, based on information obtained from Kahandagama, another suspect allegedly linked to the drug network was arrested in the Nugegoda area with 1,100 milligrams of ice narcotics.

The two suspects have been taken to the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau in Narahenpita for further investigations. They are due to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court today (06), where authorities are expected to seek detention orders.
