Legal Action Against Nearly 3,000 for Seat Belt Violations

Police have taken legal action against nearly 3,000 individuals for failing to comply with the new seat belt safety regulation on expressways.

Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, said that while most motorists and passengers comply with the law, some individuals continue to violate the regulation.

The new safety regulation making it mandatory for all passengers travelling in vehicles on expressways to wear seat belts came into effect on September 19.
