The Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management has taken steps to remove all unauthorized constructions erected along the coastal stretch from Bambalapitiya to Dehiwala.
As the first phase, orders have been issued to remove 19 unauthorized constructions belonging to eight individuals in several areas, including Bambalapitiya Marine Drive, Director General of the Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Professor P.B. Terney Pradeep Kumara said.
The owners have been given until tomorrow (10) to remove the unauthorized constructions and all items contained within them.
Any structures that are not removed by the deadline will be demolished by the Department without further notice. Authorities have emphasized that the Government will not be responsible for any damage caused during the removal process.
Under Section 31(4) of the Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management Act No. 57 of 1981, the Department has full legal authority to demolish any construction carried out within the coastal zone without a valid permit, without requiring a court order.
