Four students belonging to the student leadership council of a leading boys’ school in Kandy have been arrested by Katugastota Police over an alleged assault on an Advanced Level student.

The arrests were made following a complaint lodged by the mother of the student who was hospitalised after being assaulted.

The Advanced Level student, who was allegedly attacked by the student leaders, is currently receiving treatment at the Kandy National Hospital. Meanwhile, he was also arrested by police yesterday (29) and produced before the court following a complaint that he had assaulted another student.

The Police Media Division stated that after the injured student was admitted to hospital following the assault by a group of student leaders, statements were recorded based on the complaint made by the parents. Subsequently, steps were taken to arrest the suspected student leaders and produce them before court.
