Four people have died after a house was buried in a landslide in the Morahenagama area within the Polpitiya Police Division on the morning of August 3, 2026.
Police have commenced investigations following a complaint received by the Polpitiya Police Station regarding the incident. The deceased include three women and a man.
Two of the deceased women, aged 47 and 83, were residents of the affected house in Morahenagama. The other two victims were identified as their relatives who had arrived from the Matale area. The male victim was 22 years old, while the female victim was 58 years old.
The bodies were recovered during an operation conducted by officers of the Polpitiya Police Station with the assistance of Army personnel and local residents.
Further investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Polpitiya Police.
