The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau launched an investigation into a housebreaking and theft complaint received by the Mount Lavinia Police on 18 July 2026 involving gold jewellery worth Rs.14.1 million.
On 6 August 2026, two female suspects allegedly involved in the theft were arrested in Dehiwala. A male suspect and another female suspect accused of aiding and abetting the crime were also arrested in Hatton Pathana.
Police recovered eight pairs of gold earrings, four gold pendants, one bangle, ten gold chains, one bracelet and two gold rings believed to have been stolen. The recovered items were handed over to the Mount Lavinia Police.
The arrested women are aged 28, 46 and 53, while the male suspect is 28 years old. All are residents of Hatton Pathana.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Mount Lavinia Police.
