A team of officers from Sri Lanka's Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) left for Australia on Sunday (20) to intensify investigations into the alleged US$2 million bribe linked to SriLankan Airlines' 2013 purchase of 10 aircraft.
The visit aims to pursue international legal action against the second and third suspects, examine bank account records, and obtain witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are expected to record a statement from the owner of a bank account allegedly used to receive the bribe, while court approval has also been obtained to examine the Australian bank accounts of the second suspect.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the recent mysterious death of the first suspect, former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena, is continuing before the Colombo courts. Cases against the remaining suspects are also proceeding before the relevant magistrates' courts.
