Cabinet Approves ‘e-Court’ Project

The Cabinet has approved the implementation of the ‘e-Court’ project with the aim of digitizing all courts in Sri Lanka.

As an initial step of the project, the development of digital systems required for case file management in Magistrate’s Courts, District Courts and High Courts has already commenced.

Accordingly, official email facilities are to be provided to officials at all levels of the judicial system. As an initial phase, 1,050 official email accounts under the courts.gov.lk domain are planned to be provided to 350 courts under the government’s official information portal, gov.lk.

The system will also include Voice-to-Text technology to address the shortage of shorthand writers in courts by converting oral statements into written documents in real time.

In addition, video conferencing facilities are to be provided to all courts to enable the conduct of court proceedings online in accordance with the provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Act and the Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Act.

The Cabinet approval was granted for the proposal submitted by the Minister of Justice and National Integration.
