A cab driver has died following a road accident in the Thalavattuvan area within the Kalmunai Police Division.
The accident occurred on the Batticaloa–Kalmunai Road when a cab travelling towards Kalmunai went off the road after the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with an iron pole installed for a lottery sales booth and a shop signboard.
The driver, who sustained injuries in the accident, was pronounced dead upon admission to the Kalmunai Hospital.
The deceased was a 39-year-old resident of the Polonnaruwa area.
Another person who was at the lottery sales booth was also injured in the accident and admitted to the Kalmunai Hospital for treatment.
Kalmunai Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
