The body of a 21-year-old foreign tourist has been found washed ashore at the Paran Kade beach in Weligama, police said.
The tourist went missing on Saturday afternoon while a group of Tunisian tourists were surfing at the Paran Kade beach.
Police said the 21-year-old tourist was swept out to sea after being caught in a strong current amid suddenly intensified winds.
Following the incident, a special search operation was launched involving police lifeguards, the Coast Guard and private divers. However, the operation was hampered by rough sea conditions.
The search and rescue operation was brought to an end after the tourist’s body was found washed ashore at the same beach yesterday morning.
Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Weligama Headquarters Police.
