All government schools in the Nuwara Eliya District will remain closed tomorrow (04.08.2026), Tuesday, due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.
The Nuwara Eliya Education Division stated that the decision was taken considering the current severe weather situation in the district.
Further instructions regarding the resumption of educational activities will be issued by the relevant authorities if necessary.
Meanwhile, principals of schools under the six education zones in the Central Province have been authorized to grant holidays based on the prevailing situation.
Central Province Education Director Nayomi Hettiarachchi stated that the decision was made due to the ongoing inclement weather conditions.
Accordingly, schools under the Hatton, Kotmale, Nuwara Eliya, Gampola, Kandy, and Teldeniya education zones may be granted holidays depending on the situation.
The National Building Research Organisation has also issued landslide early warnings for selected areas in Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, and Ratnapura districts due to the prevailing weather conditions.
