The Attorney General has filed an appeal against a recent court ruling that the charges filed under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) against alleged drug trafficker ‘Harak Kata’ and several other defendants cannot be proceeded with, the Colombo High Court was informed.
The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala today (20).
The State Counsel appearing for the prosecution informed the court that the Attorney General had filed an appeal challenging the earlier ruling.
The appeal challenges the High Court decision concerning whether the charges filed against ‘Harak Kata’ and the other defendants under the Prevention of Terrorism Act can be continued.
The development comes after the Colombo High Court recently ruled that the charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act against the defendants could not be proceeded with.
