Jaffna District Parliamentarian Archchuna Ramanathan has stated in Parliament that he may step down from his parliamentary position within the next two or three weeks.

“I will not be staying in this Parliament for much longer. I will not trouble you for much longer,” the MP said.

He also alleged that he had received threats after raising public issues during a District Development Committee meeting.

Archchuna said that although he had submitted evidence and complaints regarding alleged corruption incidents in the Northern Province to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, and Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, no investigations had been initiated so far.

He further claimed that no proper investigation had been conducted into the fire at the medicine storage facility of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, and that he faced threats and legal action for speaking out on the issue.

The MP also said a perception has emerged among Tamil people that independent representatives from the North are being targeted through legal action aimed at removing them from Parliament. He urged the government to resolve these issues and ensure fair treatment for independent representatives.
