An eight-year-old girl was killed in a road accident involving two lorries and a car near the Walpola Railway Station on the Ragama–Walpola Road in the Ragama Police Division on the morning of August 22, 2026.
The accident occurred when the driver of a lorry travelling towards Walpola lost control of the vehicle and collided with an oncoming car and another lorry. The lorry then struck a woman and her daughter and son who were walking along the side of the road.
The two children and the woman sustained serious injuries and were admitted to Ragama Hospital. The eight-year-old girl later succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased girl was a resident of the Ragama area.
The drivers of the two lorries involved in the accident have been arrested, while Ragama Police are conducting further investigations.
