A motorcycle collision near the 271-kilometre post on the Jaffna–Kilinochchi Road in the Palai Police Division on the evening of August 22, 2026, claimed the life of an 18-year-old rider.
The accident occurred when a motorcycle travelling towards Kilinochchi collided with another motorcycle crossing the road.
One of the riders sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Palai Hospital before being transferred to Kilinochchi Hospital for further treatment. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased was an 18-year-old resident of the Palai area.
The rider of the other motorcycle involved in the accident has been arrested, while Palai Police are conducting further investigations.
