A 17-year-old motorcyclist died following a road accident in the Mawathagama Police Division.
The accident occurred on August 4, 2026, in front of the Community Hall on the Mawathagama–Ahasyanapitiya Road.
According to police, the motorcycle travelling from Mawathagama towards Ahasyanapitiya collided with a bus approaching from the opposite direction.
The motorcyclist and the pillion rider, who sustained serious injuries, were admitted to the Mawathagama Hospital and later transferred to the Kurunegala Hospital for further treatment.
The motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. The deceased was identified as a 17-year-old resident of Seeradunna, Mawathagama.
Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Mawathagama Police.
