An 11-year-old Buddhist monk has drowned while bathing in the Heen Ganga in the Kaikawala area of the Ududumbara Police Division.
Police investigations have been launched following a complaint received by the Ududumbara Police Station regarding the incident, which occurred on the morning of September 13, 2026.
The deceased monk was an 11-year-old monk residing at a temple located within the Minuwangoda Police Division.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the monk had travelled to the Ududumbara area to attend a dana (almsgiving) religious event and had been bathing in the Heen Ganga with several other monks when he drowned.
The Ududumbara Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
